Description:

Walking through the grasslands just like our ancestors did, you will get to see animal signs while also getting to observe these magnificent creatures up close on safari in the Serengeti Plains and Ngorongoro Crater.  You will also get to venture out with the Maasai and Hadza on primitive hunting and food gathering treks, discovering the basic tactics that have enabled their people to survive for untold generations.

This will include how to read tracks, interpret gaits, and identify other spoor like browsed plants in an attempt to understand what the animal was doing, where it was heading, and what it’s intentions were. It will also be an incredible teaching tool for anyone who wants to greatly improve his or her hunting, trailing and bird language capabilities.

You will start out spending several days on foot in a private reserve in the Eastern Serengeti ecosystem.  Here you will look for animal sightings and their tracks and sign and listen to bird language, while learning how in just a few years conservation efforts with the local Maasai tribe have resulted in a booming population of wildlife at the refuge. Then you will spend the next few days in Serengeti national park on game drives, where you will get up close to these magnificent animals and have a chance to put to use what you have learned about their behavior and what the birds have to say about them.

Next, you will move on to the remarkable Ngorongoro Conservation Area for more game drives and up close encounters with animals on the crater floor.  After a couple of days there, you will move to the Great Rift Valley near Lake Eyasi to spend time with the Hadza tribe, one of only two truly primitive tribes left in the entire African continent.  You will spend time with both the men tracking and hunting and with the women and children gathering food and other necessities.

Upon completion of this trip, you will have developed a set of outdoor skills that will serve you for the rest of your life.  These are applicable no matter what habitat you find yourself in, whether it is outside your door step or half way around the world.  Additionally, you will develop a keen awareness for all that is going on around you which will greatly enhance your enjoyment in any natural setting.

This expedition will be a once in a lifetime chance to experience the fascinating behavior of large mammals via interaction with a primitive hunter-gatherer people. Whether for the adventure of chasing large game, the scientific thrill of seeing and following keystone species, or for anthropological reasons of getting the chance to interact with a tribal people, don’t miss this amazing opportunity!
